On Monday, 9 September, Estonian Ambassador to Iceland Piia Mathisen presented her credentials to President of Iceland Halla Tómasdóttir.
During the ceremony, President Tómasdóttir and Ambassador Mathisen spoke about Estonian-Icelandic bilateral relations, the strengthening of regional and international cooperation and the role of small states in the world. Ambassador Mathisen underlined the excellent cooperation between Iceland and Estonia in supporting Ukraine and its reconstruction. „Russia’s aggression and rejection of international law must not pay off,“ she said.
Bilateral relations between Estonia and Iceland are excellent. Iceland has a special place in the hearts and minds of Estonians. Cooperation in the Nordic-Baltic forum and in international organisations is more active than ever. The ambassador expressed hope that economic relations will also intensify, both in traditional sectors as well as in emerging technologies.
