On Thursday, 22 August, Estonian Ambassador to Norway Piia Mathisen presented her credentials to Harald V the King of Norway.
During the audience, His Majesty and Ambassador Mathisen spoke about Estonian-Norwegian bilateral relations, support to Ukraine and strengthening regional and international cooperation.
Ambassador Mathisen underlined the need to continue comprehensive support to Ukraine and to invest more in European defence. „Norway is our staunch ally in NATO and our countries have a similar security policy outlook,“ she said.
Bilateral relations between Estonia and Norway are excellent. This year has seen a deepening of cultural ties due to the active cooperation between Tartu and Bodø as European Capitals of Culture. The King shared warm memories from his state visit to Tallinn. Ambassador Mathisen expressed hope that members of the Royal family will visit Estonia again soon.
Before taking up her post in Oslo, Piia Mathisen (born 1983) worked in the cabinet of the President of the European Council. Her previous posts include councillor in the Estonian Permanent Representation to the EU, head of CFSP division in the Foreign ministry, deputy head of mission in Ankara and desk officer in the EU department. Ambassador Mathisen has a BA degree in French from the University of Tartu and a MA in European politics from the University of Sussex.
